So I bought a new camera…
Yup, this is the camera I bought.
And it will arrive in two days. I hadn’t thought about buying a camera in years.
But then…
It started with a conversation. A friend and I met up at a bar to write and drink (typical, I know), when the subject changed to cameras. She had talked about shooting film when she was in college, and that led to a discussion on gear. That’s when it occurred to me that my camera system is very old.
I’m not the kind to always buy the latest and greatest. But my Canon 70D is about 9 years old at this point. Plus these SLRs, even the APS-C cameras, are bulkier than I’d like. I often left them at home when I went on my hikes because, as sturdy as they were, it was a hassle to carry the extra weight. My carrying capacity was better used for food and water.
However, I wasn’t going to buy a new camera yet. The thought had just occurred to me, after all, and I wanted to take the time to think it over.
But then…
I had a conversation with one of my coworkers. He’s a photographer and he spent last Sunday doing a photoshoot for a magazine. The subject of gear came up… which prompted a whole new discussion.
I told him that I had looked at Fujifilm cameras in the past. I own an X100T and though I liked the fixed lens, I wanted an interchangeable system. I also told him my desire to own a lighter kit. He told me about the X-S10, a camera in Fuji’s lineup that is less aesthetically pleasing but far more practical.
That set my brain alight. I decided to read some reviews on the camera body, as well as the lenses that I would eventually buy to fill out my kit. Knowing me, I would spend a few days thinking about the camera before pulling the trigger.
Well, I surprised even myself. It’s set to be delivered to my job by Wednesday.
I’ll write about the camera when it arrives…
