Back at it

I went on one of my old hikes. It’s an uphill climb on one of the mountains behind Corona.

I think the last time I went on this hike was last November. The days were getting shorter and I didn’t really feel up to doing night hikes. So, I hadn't done much physical activity since then. Attempting this hike was painful.

My original destination was the Doppler radar, which would have been a 5.5 mile hike one way, with a 2.2k ft elevation gain. I was out of shape and had to bail at the 3 mile mark. The picture I have posted here was taken from 1.3k ft above the trailhead (2.4k from sea level).

I failed to reach my goal. It’s a bit disappointing, considering that I had met and even exceeded that goal a bunch of times last summer. Sure, I was unemployed and had a lot of time on my hands. But my decline in performance is still a bummer. On top of that I gained back 15 of the 30 pounds that I lost, which only adds to the insult.

It’s taken me a while to recover from this setback. Normally, it would take me at least a year to get back on track. This time it’s only taken me 3 months. That’s a win in of itself.

Plus, I did make it past the halfway mark. The view from that point makes a nice milestone that I can aim to exceed in the near future.
