Fiction Story 1 — Part 3

This post is part of an ongoing story. If this is your first time here, then WELCOME! I have an introduction that will explain the “what” and the “why”. You can follow this link to catch up on previous posts. Enjoy!

“Give me a head’s up sooner, yeah?” he said, straightening his graduation cap.

That made me aware of my hat. I grabbed it by one corner, removed it from my head, and held it to my side against my graduation gown. I stared at the fire, thinking about why I followed Greg, how I would explain to my family why I skipped the party, and how I would pay the rental fees for my outfit. The smoke from the fire grew dark as it burned deeper into the rubber. I let the warm breeze from the fire and the cool breeze of the night dry the sweat from my hair.

Then I threw my hat into the fire. Greg took his hat off and threw it into the fire, too. We said nothing for a while after.
