Once you pop you can’t stop (please stop me)

Apropos stock image.

One of the first books I ever got was from one of those Scholastic book fairs in elementary school. That book was If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. You know, the book that tells a cautionary tale regarding the dangers of rampant consumerism; which just provides us a sense of lack as we try to fill the void created by the thing that we bought to fill a different void.

Of course, that statement is absurd. It’s a children’s book that has no agenda aside from being absurd (though adults have tried to tack on an agenda). But allow me my interpretation of that book for now. Because, well, I’m kind of living through that same plot with this camera.

After all, if I buy myself a camera, I am going to want some lenses.

I want a telephoto lens, the 70-300mm, because I love taking close-up pictures of birds and flowers on my hikes. But they aren’t that easy to buy, thanks to current supply chain issues. Used copies go for retail price or higher! I am not going that route.

So, I am focused on getting a prime lens instead. I am trying to buy a 35mm from the used market. And I have a couple of leads so far! One listing is selling both this 35mm and a 50-230mm XC lens. If the seller is legit and I land it, I probably won’t need that other telephoto lens.

Not for a while anyway… until the void grows once again…

Ah, consumerism.
