Some geeky notes on my new PC
Not pictured: my PC
What happened today:
I picked up my new PC.
It’s used so the chassis is literally missing a few screws.
Otherwise, all of the components are in there, even the GPU — which was something I was uber paranoid about.
If I were a bad person, I would totally buy a pre-built system, swap out the graphics card for a crappy one, and then return the computer with that janky card.
Good thing I’m not a bad person.
All I’ve done so far was play more Elden Ring (so typical of me). I’ll start doing some more benchmark testing later.
The system has 32 GB of RAM. 32 gigs! I know that modern software has required more ram over the years, but damn.
I’m sure this thing is going to load Lightroom and Photoshop super fast. With this amount of RAM, I wouldn’t be surprised if video editing would also run fairly smoothly.
The computer is a prebuild from Dell. The main components are high end, but I think they skimped on things like system cooling. There’s only one case fan that I see here. And the tower itself doesn’t have a top vent.
I may change out the CPU fan for a liquid cooling solution, just to keep the temps low.
Alternatively, I could add more intake fans at the front and buy a stronger exhaust fan for the back. So many options.
