Sometimes you have to know when to stop…

I love setting up new features to a network. Perhaps a bit too much? I wanted to set up Active Directory at the office. Doing so would make administering the 15 Windows computers we have on-site easier, among other things that I will not admit here for security’s sake. So, I did the research, presented the option and got the buy-in to make it happen. I was stoked.

I got as far as creating a test domain. It was then that I realized that there was too much administrative overhead for a small business like ours. How would anyone, besides me, keep AD up to date to stop the latest vulnerabilities. What about adding new computers? It’s only a little more complex than setting one up in general, but that’s a little more than anyone can handle. And we don’t have an IT department, nor are we interested in hiring an MSP. It wasn’t worth the effort.

I would rather stop a pet project of mine than shoehorn something too complex for our needs. Especially if we will only benefit from one or two added features. The focus should be on the needs of the business and its people.

Oh well, at least there’s always my home lab.

Closing out this task on my list. Sigh…

[By the way, I’ve been using ClickUp for my work tracking software and it’s been pretty handy!]
