Waiting to heal

I posted a black and white image of this on Instagram. I think the B&W version is better.

My left knee is a little better than it was yesterday. I still can’t bend it without experiencing a lot of pain. However, I can put weight on it, and I can walk as long as I keep my leg straight. That’s a relief. The last thing I want to do is hobble at work tomorrow.

If I had injured my right knee, I don’t know if I could drive, since that’s the leg I use to for the gas and brake pedals. Good thing I don’t have to worry about that.

I bought Triangle Strategy yesterday and, so far, I am disappointed. The battles don’t really impress me. This game is more difficult than other tactics games, like Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem, but the presentation itself is pretty weak. Hits and spells aren’t as punchy as the other titles. They could have done more with the sound design.

A lot of positive things have been said in reviews about the graphics. I disagree. The diorama-style backdrops coupled with the sprites worked well enough in Octopath Traveller, but they look worse here. I expected them to improve on the graphics style, but the game looks pretty muddy. Same goes with the particle effects, which is another contributing factor to the weak presentation.

The voice acting and story are also weak. Maybe that’s an unfair assessment, given that I started this game right after the excellent 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. I do find it refreshing that the voice actors aren’t falling into boisterous anime tropes. However, some of the inflections they use are odd, which may be more of an issue with the setting itself than the voice actors. They are going for the Game of Thrones’ medieval fantasy theme with this game. One that, I think, is played out.

Which brings me to the story. Again, I am probably judging this poorly because I am comparing it to 13 Sentinels, but I don’t find the intrigue very appealing. I’m very early in the game, so I won’t make any conclusions yet. All I will say is that I am forcing myself to stay engaged with the story.

Anyway, I didn’t expect to go at length about Triangle Strategy. I’m only about 10 hours in so, hopefully, my opinion will change.

Well, that doesn’t matter as much as ensuring that I recover from my knee injury. Last thing I want to do is walk with a cane in my 40s.
