Prep work
I want to treat my body better this coming week, so I am doing a little bit of prep to make that goal easier to achieve. And the best way to do that is to pick out one part of my routine and replace it with something better for myself.
For example, I have this habit of driving to a fast food restaurant and eat their breakfast meal—usually in the form of a burrito—during my commute.
So I stopped at the Albertsons and picked up ingredients to make a caesar salad.
Now, it seems to make more sense to buy frozen breakfast sandwiches (and the aforementioned burritos) that I could eat in place of the fast food options. But I know myself enough to know I have zero patience waiting for those things to thaw in the microwave.
The reason why I bought the salad is to replace lunch or dinner with a healthier option. That is, instead of the usual rice, meat, and sautéed vegetables for one of the meals I can have a lower calorie option to counter the calorie bomb I had in the morning.
And the salad purpose isn’t just to reduce my total daily caloric intake. It’s also a tangible reminder of my fitness goal.
I can see that I am making a change for the better. This is enough motivation to repeat what I’m doing during these early, inconsequential days.
Once I’m used to eating salads during the day, I can find something else to replace. And on and on it goes until I have that (mostly) healthy diet that I really want — with the occasional peanut buttercup cheesecake.
